They always say that the happiest people are those that have found their calling.
Well this is my calling and I realised it in teaching.
If you've spent any time on the rest of my site, then you'll know that I take a great deal of pride in making people feel better about maths, but what about those who just need to feel better?
We teach our kids every subject under the sun, except how to be happy!
If your child has always seemed a bit down, or lacking in confidence across the board, afraid to try new things, well maybe there's a reason for that?
With my studies in Psychology and experience in the classroom, I've often had a small flow of pupils who just want to talk to someone.
I found my coach at university, Fr Ben, who could offer advice and support at the drop of a hat, even being able to open up was helpful!
To my mind, all kids need what I had at uni, and the sooner the better!
Yes and no, I will always keep parents & guardians up to speed on what has been discussed.
That said, they may have been venting some frustration because you took their phone away yesterday; I won't be quoting them there!
The point remains that I aim to help your child find a greater sense of comfort and happiness in themselves and it will take all of us to get them there!
I base my work on a Four-Factor Model of living and the Big-5 Personality theory.
The four factor model looks at; physical health, mental health, relations and studies.
If all four of these elements are going well, then it's pretty likely that your child doesn't need me!
Oftentimes, one or two of these things aren't going so well and it can be tricky for the teenage mind to navigate these things.
Yes it is a big part of growing up, but it doesn't hurt to have a mentor onside to help out.
The Big-5 theory breaks down a persona into five components; Agreeableness, Openness, Extraversion, Conscientiousness & Negative feeling.
Mathematically, this model can account for around 10,000,000,000 unique personality types!
Naturally that isn't the whole story, but figuring out your child's unique personality as far as science can tell AND getting an idea of where they feel according to the four-factor model... well that's a pretty good start!
Over the weeks, I work with your child, helping them to improve their perceptions of the world and encouraging them to take action on improving it.
Those actions are their homework. My homework is to report to you, and take the time to research any other methods that might be useful.
Given that this is so close to my heart, I offer sessions at a reduced rate of £30ph.
Naturally, that may seem somewhat pricey, or your child might be open to group sessions, in which case, I encourage you to skip over to the groups section.
